title page of a historical print titled "FIRST IN PEACE." 1888

It depicts the arrival of General George Washington at The Battery in New York on April 23, 1789, prior to his inauguration as the first President of the United States on April 30, 1789.

The original painting was created by A. Rivey in Paris, and it was engraved on steel by John C. McRae. Booklet identifies the characters in the print.

The print was published exclusively by Joseph Laing, an engraver and print publisher.

Includes a few pages in fair condition. Signs of age include discoloration and folds along corner along with loose binding. For 137 years old it held up quite well.
